The Procedure to join in as a IAS officer is by writing the IAS exam which is conducted by UPSC and is held every year.
The candidate is selected for the post through 3 stages namely:
> Preliminary Exam
> Main exam
> Interview
There are criteria's which are needed to be satisfied in order to apply for the exam and they are:
> Candidate must be a citizen of India
> The ahe limit for the exam is that the candidate must have 21-30 years for General Category.
> There are certain other relaxation for other category candidates.
> Education qualification for the exam is that the candidate must have completed a degree in any discipline from a recognized university.
> Even final degree candidates are eligible for the exam.
The candidate who is satisfying all these criteria is eligible for applying for the IAS exam.

UPSC is a body which conduct various UPSC Exams like CS, IFS, CDS, IES, CPF etc. and IAS is a post which you can get after clearing UPSC CS exam.
Eligibility Criteria:
1. Graduation in any field from recognized college or university.
2. your age must be within 21 years to 30 years. There is relaxation in upper age limit: 3 years for OBC and 5 years for SC/ST.
How to apply ?
you can apply for UPSC exams onlineor offline.
1. Offline: you can buy UPSC Exam's application form from head post office and after filling send it to UPSC address by Speed post or simple post no other method would be accepted.

for this exam your age should be between 21-30 years .
you can apply for this exam by filling the form you have to buy from the head post office. filling the form is very easy ,you can fill it by following the instruction given in the form for every column. and then you can send the from with simple post only .couriers are not accepted by upsc.
you can also apply for this through online filling of the form on www.onlineupsc.nic.in .you can fill the form there again by following the instruction in the form. and submit the form to upsc .
