In case other eligibility conditions apply:
General candidates: four attempts.
Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe candidates: No restriction.

1.on the 10+2 basis
that is NDA .
---->you can attempt all the NDA examinations that will be held between 16.5 to 19 years of your age.
2.on graduation basis.
for the examinations like IES,IFS,CDS,IAS etc
the no of attempts caste wise are as folllow:

2.obc:7

Dear you should know that UPSC does not conduct a single exam as - IAS or IPS UPSC Board has many responsibilities to conduct various civil services and defense sector exams and UPSC + Indian Government decided for the no. of attempts allowed for the aspirants as per category which is following :
1. General Category candidates may apply for UPSC exam only 4 times
2. OBC Category candidates may apply for UPSC exam only 7 times
3. SC/ST category candidates has no bar or limit to appear for exam but they should not be over than 35 years of age means if they are applying from 21 years of age then they can apply at least more than 13 times
