How many candidates are selected from 1st round of UPSC CSE - 2012 for further rounds? How many questions a general candidate should attempt to ensure qualification in prelims?

    Dear friend,

In the prelims exam roughly around three lakhs appear.

for the mains the number of candidates selected will be roughly around 10-11 times the number of vacancy for the exam year.

so now you can understand the level of competition.

If you belong to general category your marks should be higher than the other category students.

for example, in 2011 the cut of for general category was 198 meaning the last candidate who got selected under general category scored 198 marks.

    plan your strategy accordingly.

    all the best

    Hello

The no of students selected for mains is about 9-10 times the no. of vacancies available.

So the competition is very tough.

    Cut-off marks is variable.

Every year it changes with the performance of the students.

So you should perform well irrespective of the cut-off marks.

Because your performance is going to set the cut-off.

For cut-off marks click on the link http://www.indiancivils.com/exams/ci...xam_cutoff.htm

    Good luck..
