Dear Aspirant
It is really good to know that you are interested to become an IPS officers. You will be selected for an IPS officers if you crack civil service examination.
See UPSC is not about focusing on a particular subject. It is only examination that tests you from all perspective. You need to know something about everything. It doesn't mean that you should be a perfectionist .
In broad sense you may say General Studies is the main paper in which civil service examination main focus is.It comprises many topics like history, civics, geography, economy,Indian polity and Constitution and current affairs.Besides this you have to develop a habit of reading newspaper daily. It is the solution of many things.Once you developed this habit you will be updated about news as well as improve your English and if possible try to write any interesting topics in your word. After reading it it will improve your essay quality.
Since you are a BBA student you may take Commerce and Accountancy as one of your optional. But you have to focus more on General Studies. All the best

Dear IPS post comes under IAS Examination and to become an IPS Officer, you will have to qualify Indian Civil Service Examination then only you will be eligible to get this post but final selection depends on your rank so you have to study according to the requirement of this job. Below I have mentioned examination pattern in detail with required subjects and syllabus please read
Preliminary Examination : This will be your first test that has no part in the complete ranking system and merit listing of candidates means this will be a primary test to find out qualified candidates for main examination but this is important because if you could not pass this pre test then you will be declared failed in selection process means passing in this preliminary test is mandatory so you need to work hard over both papers mentioned here :
Paper I - General Studies - Objective type - 200 marks - Asked subjects are following :
Current Events of National and International Importance
History of India and Indian National Movement
Indian and World Geography - Physical, Social, Economic Geography of India and World
Indian Polity and Governance - Constitution, Political System, Panchayati Raj, Public Polity, Rights, Issues etc.
Economic and Social Development - Sustainable Development, Poverty, Inclusion, Demographics, Social sector Initiatives etc.
General Issues on Environmental Ecology, Bio-Diversity and Climate Change
General Science and Technology
Paper II - CSAT - Civil Service Aptitude Test - Objective Type - 200 marks - Asked subjects are following :
Comprehension
Interpersonal Skills including Communication Skills
Logical Reasoning and Analytical Ability
Decision Making and Problem Solving
General and Mental Ability
Basic Numeracy - Numbers and their relations, orders of magnitude, etc. Data Interpretation - Charts, graphs, tables, data sufficiency etc. - Class X Level
English Language and Comprehension Skills of class X Level
Main Examination - Seven Papers - Conventional Type :
Paper I will have two sections that are - Essay for 200 marks and English Comprehension and Precis for 100 marks = total 300 marks
Paper II based on general studies that includes - Indian Heritage and Culture, History and Geography of the world and Society - 250 marks
Paper III is for the same subject - general studies that covers - Governance, Constitution, Polity, Social Justice and International Relations - 250 marks
Paper IV is also for general studies subject and asked topics in this papers are - Science and Technology, Economic Development, Bio-diversity, Environment, Security and Disaster Management - 250 marks
Paper V will also be for general studies subject that has - Ethics and Integrity and Aptitude Subjects for 250 marks
Paper VI - Selected Optional Subject Paper I - 250 marks
Paper VII - Selected Optional Subject Paper II - 250 marks
These two papers will be set on the basis of the selected optional subject by you from the list that is following but you can choose only one subject from the list and both papers will cover questions on that subject :
Agriculture
Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Science
Anthropology
Botany
Chemistry
Civil Engineering
Commerce and Accountancy
Economics
Electrical Engineering
Geography
Geology
History
Law
Management
Mathematics
Mechanical Engineering
Medical Science
Philosophy
Physics
Political Science and International Relations
Psychology
Public Administration
Sociology
Statistics
Zoology
These are the optional and important subjects in this examination that are really important for you because each subject has two papers and you should select that one which is really good for you and mostly you should prefer that subject which is related or same as specialization subject of your bachelor's degree or mandatory subject of degree or any other qualification so you will not have so much problem in completing study for that subject and will qualify these two papers easily with good marks
Personality Test/ Personal Interview : When you will get qualified in main examination then you will have to appear for interview process that will be the final stage and if your score of main examination is enough to get selected then you may get the job so you have to study more and in depth for all papers of main examination so you could get more marks and your score make you eligible to get selected
You are preparing for IPS Officer post so there will be one more test that is - Physical and Medical Standards test that will be conducted as per the norms of the board and selection committee so you have to pass this test too otherwise your study and qualifying in exam and interview will be wasted so think about the significance of all stages conducted in selection procedure then start preparing for this examination
For betterment of your preparation, you may prefer coaching institute and also buy some books of different writers and publications to get more knowledge and question pattern asked in this examination and complete syllabus for this examination is mentioned in detail in the following attachment so you may buy books according to that
All the best
