Actually, UPSC is a Board as same as CBSE (which conducts Exams of class X and XII) which conducts Exams for Defense and Civil Services. Every year there will be UPSC exam taken by the government for the post of like IAS , IPS , IFS etc .
The advertisement for the exam will be published on the month of december on all the leading news paper .
The preliminary exam will be on the month of May .
After one month the result will be declared .
The main exam will be on october / november .
The result will be declared after two month .
The interview will be on march /april .
The final list for the selection will be published on the month of May .
There are many examinations conducted by UPSC throughout year. If you can specify the name of a particular exam,then we can tell about the date of commencement of that particular exam.

My dear friend ....UPSC exam will be held each year but depending upon number of vacancies they have to be decided....For example in 2012 the cds exam was heldon feb 2 and in this month also the notification released...the exam will be held on sep 16 of this year...The last date to apply for this is next month 7th.......If you are eligible then apply as soon as possible ..In this also include NDA,IAS,IES,IFS and CDS you are also apply for these posts also...any way good luck my friend

- The UPSC conducts more than ten exams to fill up the vacancies available. So the date for the exam varies but it is well notified in advance and also the eligibility for the same is put up along with it . The various exams that are conducted are
- Indian Administrative service
- Indian police service
- Indian foreign service
- Special class railway apprentices
- National Defence Academy
- Common Defence Service
- The exam namely NDA, CDS is conducted twice a year whereas IAS, IPS, IES and others are conducted only once in a year. The notification is put up in the month of march and most of the exam held in the month of june and july.
