Re: Why UPSC asks candidates to select optional subjects? Can't they fix on their own?

    Dear,
The main purpose of the CSAT examination is to choose the right candidates who are the best to their subjects. Because the officers are engaged in different fields of the central government. Suppose a humanity students may not have the sufficient knowledge in the Engineering or medical field and vice-versa. So they can't perform their best in the Engineering or Medical field and vice-versa. Another thing is that the candidates who choose his optional can show his best performance in that subject which the committee wants. After all there are a number of subjects in which some may be very strong and some may be weak. By choosing their own choices, they can prove their best. So there is an optional subjects system for the every candidates. Thanks....

    dear friend,

For UPSC Civil Services Prelims exam now there is no optional subjects. Papers for Prelims come from general studies.
For Mains UPSC ask to choose two optional subject from the list of optional subjects and with compulsory subjects one Indian Language, English, General Studies.
UPSC does not fix the optional subjects on its own. This is the chance for candidates to do their best in the selected two optional subjects. These optional subjects are important for the purpose of cracking the exam.

    Good Luck.......

upsc follows this procedure inorder to recruit the best minds of this country in any academic field.... is they fix the subjects itself then upsc would limit the amount of expertise.
    all the best
    happy learning!!!

Friend, you have expressed your idea that UPSC should fix the optional subjects for the candidate at its own discretion. But sorry to say that it is not practical and proved to be useless. The main purpose of giving the right to candidate for selecting any optionsl subjects that to judge the academic knowledge in that concerned subjects. UPSC wants the candidates who are best in their opted optional subjects. And Civil Service is highly responsible and accountable job, so it is required that candidate must be highly knowledgeable in their subjects and have good presence of minds and ability to take quick accurate decision.
