No dear this is absolutely wrong information you have means if you have appeared for CDS - Combined Defense Service Examination two times then you do not need to afraid of it because UPSC board allows every general category candidate to appear for 4 times for every UPSC exam if he/she is eligible for that examination means if you have appeared for CDS then you should not count your attempt for civil service examination
If you are willing to apply for civil service examination then you will be allowed to appear for 4 times for this examination also and if you apply for any other exam of UPSC board then you will be allowed to attempt for 4 times for that examination so that dear do not fear and still start your preparation as soon as possible because the time is not more to prepare for civil service examination and prelims of civil service is going to be conducted at 26th May 2013 so that you have to prepare for this exam according to ease of use
You may join any coaching but you will be unable to complete syllabus for this exam from now if you join but you should join because you will appear for this exam again so that make that exam as your main target and start preparation and give more than 10 hours everyday only for preparation
I have attached the official notification for this exam in which you will get all the details about this examination as exam pattern, examination centers, payment of the exam fee, how to apply etc. so that you should download this notification and get more details and apply between - 5th march 2013 to 4th april 2013 at www.upsc.gov.in
All the best
- No, your's attempts in Combined defence services (CDS) examination wouldn't be counted for the civil services examination.
- Though both the CDS examination and civil services examination are conducted by the upsc but it relates with the different sector.
- The number of attempts for the general category students is four, for the obc category the number of attempts is seven and there is no limit on the number of attempts for the sc/st category students.
hi dear,
no absolutely not!dont get panicked.it wont be counted for the 4 attempts.cds is a different thing and civil services is a different thing.best of luck.
Number of attempts fixed are for a specific exam and not for combined exams.For general category candidates,the number of attempts is 4 for Civil services,4 for Engineering services etc.Your CDS attempts will be counted for CDS only and not for any other exam conducted by UPSC.So there is no need to worry as your attempts are intact for Civil services if you have not appeared in any

No the CDS attempt will not be counted as th upsc civil services attempts. Even though the CDS and CSAT examinations are conducted by the upsc, but there is no relation in between them. CDS and CS are altogether different fields and both have there respective and different criterias.
Gud luck
NO, it will not be counted
CDS is a separate exams and UPSC Civil services is a separate exams.
only thing in common between them is that both are conducted by UPSC.
In the UPSC civil services exams below are the number of attempts allowed:
General candidates 4 times
OBC candidates are given 7 attempts
SC/ST has no such restriction with regards to attempts
Dear Friend,
The Full Form Of CDS is Combined Defense Services Exam which is completely different from the Civil Services Exam.
All the Examinations conducted by the Union Public Service Commission have different qualifications required along with different number of attempts allowed for the exam.
So , if you have appeared in the CDS Exam twice then you need not to worry that these two attempts will be counted in the Civil Services Exam as both are different exams.
The Number of Attempts allowed for Civil Services Exam are :
* For General Candidates : 4
* For OBC Candidates : 7
* For SC/ST Candidates : No Limit
These atempts mean that if you belong to General Category then you are allowed to appear in the Civil Services Exam 4 times no matter how many times you have appeared in other UPSC Exams.
The Civil Services Examination is conducted in three phases :
1) Preliminary Examination
2) MAINS Examination
3) Interview Test
This is the information i have to the best of my knowledge regarding your query. Hope the information will help you to the extent you want.
