No, appearing in Combined defence services (CDS) won't be counted as an attempt on any other examination conducted by UPSC. We know that for civil services examination allows only four attempts but this exam is nothing to relat with the CDS except that UPSC conducts both examination. Appearing in civil services examination will only be counted as one out of four attempt. Since CDS examination doesn't have any kind of limit, you can give this exam any number of times provided your age must be in the limit stated.
NO!!!
Appearing in Combined Defense Services Examination (CDSE) will not be counted as 1 out of 4 attempts for UPSC Examination.
The attempt will only be counted when you appear for UPSC Civil Services Examination.
You should also note that restriction on number of attempts is for following UPSC Exams:
Civil Service Examination - General-4, OBC-7, SC/ST- No restriction
IFS Examination- General-4, OBC-7, SC/ST-No restriction
There is no restriction on number of attempts in any other Examination conducted by the Commission.
So your attempt will be counted only when you appear for Civil Services Exam.
Good luck..
Hello
CDS exam and all the other UPSC exams are totally different to each other and they do not have anything to do with each other.
Think it as a department who are working for the same company which is upsc in this case and the department is the various exams so it has nothing to do with each other.
MY friend you can give as many attempt as you can till you satisfy all the conditions laid down by the upsc for the specific exam.
Continue your preparation for CDS as well as other exam.
YOu can see the details of this on www.upsc.gov.in
good luck

Donot get confused ,The no of attempts for the civil services examinations are category based and totally depends upon the category to which you belong. Here is the information regarding it
For general candidates ,it is four.
For OBC candidate it is seven and for the sc/st it is unlimited that is they can appear for any no of times for all the civil services examinations that fall within their age limit.

UPSC exams attempts are not counted together. Each exam have separate allotted attempts. The number of attempts for Civil service,Engg Service,Forest Service etc are different for each exam.
Moreover CDS does not have any fixed attempt. You can appear for CDS as many times you wish BUT within the age limit for each of the branch fo CDS.
For the rest UPSC exams, the attempts are separate and NOT like total of 4 attempts overall.
Hi,
CDSE exam has no number of attempts, Its number of attempts is counted on your Age limits.,
It does not counted as your number of attempts of civil services exam.
Age limit for CDS exam is 19-24 years.
There is different number of attempts is for different category.
General category consist 4 times number of attempts.
7 times for OBC category
There is no limit for SC/ST category.
If you apply CDS exam this year, then it will not counted as Civil services exam attempts.
Your civil services exam number are Remained.
You have to start preparation from now to crack all these exam.
Good luck....................
Dear Aspirant!
For the Combined Defense Services examination conducted by UPSC twice in every year.
For this examination there is no limit of attempts made by candidate .
So, you can apply and write this examination till your maximum age limit prescribed for different posts.
- CDSE means Common Defence Services Exam.
- This exam is different exam from Civil Services Exam.
- If you write CDSE exam then it doesn't means that you have sit in Civil Services Exam.
- Both exams are conducted by UPSC but both are different exams for different purposes.
- Eligibility criteria and age limit for both exams are different.
- As in Civil Services Exam a General category can write this exam only four times.
- Weather he success or not in this exam he/she do not write it 5th time.
- But the attempt is only counted when one sit in Civil Services Exam but not in any other UPSC exam/s.

It seems that you are in a little bit confusion,if you write for cds examination or any other examination conducted by upsc then it is not
counted as 1 attempt for civil services examination, because you have individual number of attempts.
it means if you take part in the examination CDS 4 times( for general category) even than you can attempts the civil service

Hello my dear Friend ...
Generally UPSC conducts so many various exams ..
U.P.S.C --- UNION PUBLIC SERVICE COMMISSION ..
And no worry
It does not counted as ONE ...
But if you appearing for the SAME CDSE exam in next year .. then it will be considered as one Attempt ..
IF YOU TALKING ABOUT .. CIVIL SERVICES EXAM ,... ( I.A.S , I.P.S ...I.F.S ... ) then It will not be Considered
So it basically depends on the Kind of Exam
So no worry
There is an each and Individual Kind ..like
<> Civil Services
<> N.D.A
<> C.D.S ...
So the attempt will be considered in the Same Category
AS OF NOW .. IT IS NOT CONSIDERED
VERY GOOD LUCK
