Dear, After completion of your Graduation you can appear for Civil Services Exam. and than on basis of marks you are selected for IPS. Actually IPS means Indian Police Service and its not a Rank or Post. Its a Department of Police. You can be an IPS Officer in your age of 21 if you got selection at this age in the rank of ACP or Addl.S.P (which is for Probation period of nearly 3 yrs.) and after probation period at about 24 - 25 yrs you became Superintendent of Police of a Dist. Yes age is an important criteria to become an IPS Officer.

First of all you need to know which exam you have to appear for IPS officer.

You are required to give Civil services exam.

Now I would like to mention that its not only the age in fact Your educational qualification and age are interrelated and you must fulfill these both conditions then only you can appear for Civil services exam.

Here is the age limit criteria:-

If you belong to General category your age must be between 21 to 30 yrs.

If you are of OBC category then you have got 3 yrs of age relaxation.

Belonging to SC/ST category you have 5 yrs of age relaxation.

Physically handicapped candidates have got 10 yrs of age relaxation.

Now here below is the educational qualification which is must to become an IPS officer:-

>> You must hold bachelors degree from a recognised university with any stream.

>> Also final year students are also eligible for the exam.

NATIONALITY- INDIAN

One more important thing to be mentioned is no. of attempts you have for the following exam.

>> Belonging to general category you have only 4 attempts.

>> OBC candidates have got 7 no of attempts.

>> Sc/St have got unlimited no of attempts.
