Selection of subjects is fully based on your interest and Knowledge. If You insist then according to me Being a chemical engineer you can choose chemistry and mathematics as optional subjects. As you read these subjects in your engineering and you should have knowledge of these subjects which is helpful for you in cracking the Civil Service Exam.

since you have chemical engineering background you can go for chemistry provided you are interested in it.

apart from that you can choose any subject which will suit you.

an optional has to be selected based upon your interest,availability of study material,proper guidance,syllabus etc..

first go through the syllabus and then decide the one which will suit you the best.

dont choose an optional just because somebody is saying that it is very scoring
