1) Ensure you have your admit card safe
2) Mains examination is conventional/essay type, you have to write for 300 marks in 3 hours. So time management is the most important criterion. so plan how much time you should spend on a particular question.
eg: for a 60 mark question you should not spend more than 30 minutes. Like this have a definite plan before starting the exam.
Also account for wordlimit as stipulated in the questions. for a 60 mark question you should write answer in not more than 600 words. So write your ponits in a crisp and neat way.
3) Understand the question completely. There are a lot of different way of asking questions
eg: comment, Discuss, Analyse, criticize, etc
so understand what you are being asked and answer accordingly.
4) Dont loose hope that you did not do well in a particular paper. Only overall marks is counted. So even if you did not do well in one particular paper, you can make it up in others. Once you loose hope, your performance on other papers will reduce drastically.

Dear Friend,

The best advise would be to do your studies with full concentration and dedication.
Build a passion in yourself to prepare for IAS examination.
Untill and unless you have passion for it, you cannot achieve your desired Goal in life.
UPSC CSE examination is one of the toughest exams in the whole ASIA.
so you should prepare with that information in Mind.
You have to give atleast 4/5 hours daily for studies.
You should prepare a time table for daily studies and should strictly follow it.
Without proper time management skills you won't be able to achieve your target.
You have to prepare equally for each subjects and should not neglect any.
Because this examination is conducted to test your highest Intellectual Ability which will need to work with High Level department of Government.
Don't deviate yourself from your studies.
Stop wasting time behind unnecessary things and activities instead utilize that time in covering your syllabus as much as possible.

you can apply for Mains exam only if you have cleared the Civil Services Prelims exam now called CSAT exam.

Instructions to Candidates:

1. you must kept your admit card.
2. Mobile phones and any other objectionable thing is not allowed to carry in examination hall.
3. Candidates have to write exam with their own hands and only blinds are allowed to write the exam with the help of scribe.
